Published Description | Description from exhibit catalog English Brass Rubbings by Kathleen Cairns: "London, Westminster Abbey--John Estney, 1498. The triple canopy has perspective vaulting. Two pinnacles, two shields and inscription were destroyed in 1772 when the Abbot's tomb was moved from its original site in St. Michael's Chapel to the north ambulatory. The Abbot is in Mass vestments with the full regalia of his office. In addition he wears the tunicle and the dalmatic, under his chasuble. He wears gloves, ring and sandals and carries a crozier. The mitre and the chasuble show by the cuts in the brass that these indents carried color." From the catalogue, An Exhibition of Medieval Brass Rubbings by Kathleen H.
