Description | From the catalogue, An Exhibition of Medieval Brass Rubbings by Kathleen H. Cairns: "Middlesex, Westminster Abbey - Eleanor de Bohum, 1399. In widow's dress. Daughter and heir of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford, Exxes, Northhampton and Constable of England. Wife of Thomas of Woodstock, youngest son of Edward III. He was Duke of Gloucestershire. Essex and Buckingham and also Constable of England. The fine triple canopy contains in the central spandrel Eleanor's special emblem, the Bohun swan. Her head rests on two embroidered cushions. Champhered inscription in French not rubbed." |
