Published Description

From the catalogue An Exhibition of Medieval Brass Rubbings by Kathleen H. Cairns: "Middlesex, Westminter Abbey - Sir John Harpenden, 1438. A beautifully engraved brass of fine workmanship. Sir John wears Italian style armour, with long pointed sabotons and his casque under his head with the Hind's head surmounting a crown. Sir John was the fifth husband of Joan, Lady de Cobham and he survived her. The indent for the inscription is outlined in ink. This inscription was lost when the brass was moved from the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist to the North Ambulatory."
