Description | Description from the exhibit catalog English Brass Rubbings by Kathleen Cairns: "Tattershall--Joan, Lady Cromwell, 1479, elder daughter of sir Richard Stanhope of Rampton, niece and coheir of Baron Ralph Cromwell, Lord High Treasurer, who died in 1455, in her own right, Baroness Cromwell. She was widow of sir Humphrey Bouchier. In mantle, with flowing hair and jewels. The brass was engraved in 1470. The canopy is mutilated. On the side shafts are Blessed Virgin Mary, Saints Christopher, Dorothy, Anne, George, and Edmund." |
