Published Description

From Horowitz. 2002. George wears a long plain gown that reaches the ground and fits closely at the neck. A purse and a rosary hang from his girdle. His hair is worn long in the style of the day. All three ladies are dressed similarly in plain garments covered by a cote-hardie trimmed with fur on the cuffs and lapels. They wear identical horned headdresses, slightly old-fashioned at this time unless the women died at a much earlier date. The inscription states that George died on 14 February 1488. It asks for prayers for his three wives, Agnes, Isabel and Joanne, whom he apparently married in ascending order. With Agnes he had one son, represented as a priest in academic vestments. With Isabel he had five sons and six daughters. The boys are seen in civilian costumes while the girls wear small, framed headdresses. Two sons are placed next to Joanne, his third wife. This brass was discovered in the mid-19th century during the restoration of the church.
