Research Remarks
| Description | This is the stand for a Chinese lacquer carving of a seated Buddha holding a rosary. In Buddhist belief, a Buddha is regarded as an enlightened figure who has achieved a true understanding of reality. Wood, as the second of the five Chinese elements, is highly venerated as a material for decorative art, resulting in artists frequently ornamenting their wooden materials with images of mythical and / or religious meaning. |
