Contemporary Conservations: Gender Bending—The Costume of drag

The Spurlock Museum’s Contemporary Conversations program series instigates conversations about contemporary cultural issues, themes, and ideas relevant to the University of Illinois and the C-U community.

Gender Bending is being presented as part of Contemporary Conversations and in connection with the current exhibit In Her Closet—How to Make a Drag Queen. Gender Bending is an hour-long moderated panel conversation around the aesthetics of drag and the role of gender identity in drag costuming.

Panelists include Courtney Becks, Assistant Professor, African American Studies Librarian, and Jewish Studies Bibliographer; Erin Grogan, Ph.D. student, English Department; Olga Maslova, Assistant Professor of Theater; and Sharon ShareAlike, drag artist and owner of Boobs for Queens and Drag Skins.
