40North (external link) is currently collecting entries from area artists who would like to participate in the Great ARTdoors, 2021. 10 selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for their piece, and the artwork will be featured in one of 10 designated locations at area parks in Champaign-Urbana. Artists are asked to submit a proposal by midnight of March 14, 2021. Applicants need not not be professional artists to apply. Any area resident with an idea and ambition to create is welcome to submit. You can find all the information about how to apply (external link) on the 40North website.

The Great ARTdoors exhibit 2020 was a treat for many of us living in the Champaign-Urbana area. Perhaps you came upon a sculpture by happenstance, or you took the time to visit a new-to-you city park to get a glimpse of a friend or neighbor’s piece. Not only did the program provide pleasure and solace to visitors, it also provided local artists with much-needed funding during the pandemic. Due to the popularity of 2020's Great ARTdoors and the social good it created, the Spurlock Museum, 40 North, Urbana Park District, Champaign Park District, and Urbana Arts and Culture have once again partnered in 2021 for a second round! This new iteration will be viewable earlier—by early May—and will last through October 2021.
