Violins of Hope event: Rebecca Kasdan lecture/recital

This is the second in a series of concerts & workshops bringing the Violins of Hope to Champaign Urbana.

  • Concert: 1:30 pm

Doctoral student, Becca Kasdan, and musicians from UIUC School of Music will present a chamber music concert. Remarks about the program will be made by Ms. Kasdan. Hear from Yael Gertner about the Violins of Hope exhibit on display at the Spurlock Museum. Join us before the concert for a bagel brunch sponsored by Illini Hillel. Violins of Hope, hosted by JCC (Jewish Community Center) Chicago and other partner organizations, is coming to Chicagoland and surrounding areas across Illinois from April through September 2023. The collection of 70 string instruments played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust has been painstakingly restored and is now coming to our area for cultural exhibitions, performances, and community education with a message of hope, resistance, resilience, and unity.

Spurlock's display features 4 violins and is on view April 23 through May 31. Related events include another performance on May 11.
