On April 24, 2023, the Museum welcomed Syrian-Armenian artist Kevork Mourad to campus to work with students across campus in creating a new work. Mourad introduced students to his process of monotype printmaking on multiple canvases, then cutting out the negative space. Once each canvas is individually complete, they are layered on top of each other, and a complex city of abstract architecture is born. The city acts as a visual representation of individual and collective memories and experiences. Just as a city is built up over many years, with some history remaining accessible, and other parts hidden from view, memory is made up of complex layers of clarity and obscurity.
