Revolutionary artwork aims to subvert authority, reclaim marginalized identities, and imagine a transformed social order. Students in the Revolutions course at the University of Illinois Laboratory High School analyzed works of anticolonial visual art from around the globe. Their wide-ranging analyses explore themes of identity, oppression, and resistance in movements for self-determination. Taken together, their projects demonstrate artwork’s power to shape revolutionary narratives and memories.
