Position Opening:
IPM and Environmental Monitoring Assistant (Fall 2025)
The Collections Management Section at the Spurlock Museum is accepting applications for a part-time undergraduate student to assist with the environmental monitoring program, primarily the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. The IPM system includes tracking, identifying, and documenting invertebrate pests caught in the building and inspecting artifacts for damage indicating active or past infestations. Additional tasks include analysis of data generated by thermometer/hygrometer dataloggers, research regarding environmental monitoring, interpreting data and writing reports.
Required Qualifications:
- good visual acuity to properly identify insects
- strong organizational skills
- acute attention to detail
- hand-eye coordination to carefully handle artifacts
- fine motor skills and dexterity
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- perform light data entry
- ability to climb ladders and stairs, stoop, bend, kneel, lift up to 30 pounds, and stand for the duration of your shift to access artifacts in storage or on display
Preferred Qualifications:
- strong interest and/or experience in entomology
- freshman or sophomore standing
- federal work study status
Schedule and Wages:
- position requires 8 hours per week
- hours are flexible but must be scheduled between the hours of 9:00 am—5:00 pm Monday—Friday.
- position runs through the school year with the option to work during Summer
- pays $15 an hour
