Position Opening:
Collections Management Artifact Preservation Assistant (Fall 2024)

The Collections Management Section at the Spurlock Museum is accepting applications for a part-time undergraduate student starting Fall 2024 semester to aid with the movement and documentation of artifacts in the Artifact Preservation Center, as well as the unpacking, cleaning, sewing/building of storage/exhibit mounts, and writing of condition reports for the museum’s collections.

Required Qualifications:

  • federal work study status
  • strong organizational skills
  • acute attention to detail
  • good visual acuity to properly observe/inspect artifact condition
  • good hand-eye coordination to carefully handle artifacts
  • fine motor skills and dexterity to build/sew mounts
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • competency to perform light data entry
  • ability to climb ladders and stairs, stoop, bend, kneel, lift up to 30 pounds, and stand for the duration of your shift to access artifacts in storage or on display

Preferred Qualifications:

  • interest in museums, anthropology, history, and/or art history

Schedule and Wages:

  • position requires 8–10 hours per week
  • hours are flexible but must be scheduled between the hours of 9:00 am—5:00 pm Monday—Friday.
  • position runs through school year with possibility to work during school breaks and Summer
  • pays minimum wage
