North Central IPM Center (external link) held a two-day conference at the I Hotel and Conference Center, where Spurlock Collections Manager Christa Deacy-Quinn gave a presentation on the Museum’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. This program paved the way for Spurlock to become the very first museum to receive Green Shield Certification (external link).

Following the talk, Collections staff toured conference attendees around the galleries and Artifact Preservation Center, offering a closer look at the museum’s day-to-day IPM preservation efforts. Dr. Thomas Green, a member of Green Shield Certified’s (external link)Technical Advisory Committee, also evaluated the facility as part of our continued participation in their certification program. This on-site assessment ensured that our IPM practices are effective and safe for our visitors, collections, and the environment. “The Spurlock Museum remains a leader in the field of effective, low-risk pest management for the collections industry,” says Dr. Thomas Green, entomologist and president of the IPM Institute.
