Spurlock Museum is taking part in the Playful by Design Symposium in collaboration with The University of Illinois Center for Informatics Research and Electronic Literatures and Literacies Lab (EL3). We will be hosting an exhibit highlighting children’s board games, titled Past Time Pastimes: Vintage Board Games, from April 5 through July 8. Stop by on Thursday, April 5 from 3–5 pm for our public exhibit opening reception and learn about the history of gaming communities in Champaign-Urbana, hear Dan Cermak—whose collection will be on display—speak more broadly about his games, and see this fascinating exhibit for yourself!

  • Several board games laid out on a table
Here we see a few of the board games and all their components being dry-fit for display. Blue tape is used to mark the footprint of each case, and then the game pieces are arranged within.
