Who was that masked person?

When visitors think about our collections, they might think of objects that are old, are from faraway places, or maybe both. You may be surprised to know that modern artifacts (No, that's not an oxymoron!) from right around the corner are also integral to our educational programs. In honor of fall, we are featuring 2 fun pieces from our Teaching Collection: Darth Vader's mask and a field hockey mask. Both objects can lead to an exploration of the masks that are used in Halloween costumes. (Did you know that 11 different hockey masks were worn by Jason in the Friday the 13th movies?)
If you are interested in your group learning about how masks are used in the United States and the uses, appearances, and materials of masks used around the globe, please contact Kim Sheahan about booking a Masks Around the World program. Although the Education staff are not currently offering in-person programs, you can schedule a Zoom program for students 4th grade and older.
