Although the Museum has been closed to the public for the past few months, that didn’t stop some superhero scoundrels from causing trouble.

The mini miscreants decided it was a good idea to host a party in a diorama of a Greek theater (1950.02.0001)—normally on display in our Ancient Mediterranean gallery. Not only were masks worn improperly and social distancing lacking, but they trashed the place to boot!

We found damage to the theater’s roof, chipped paint, and even several support pillars knocked down entirely. Photos from the event gave us disturbing insight into how it all unfolded.

  • Joker LEGO minifg driving a LEGO car, knocking over a diorama pillar
Reckless driving caused some of the damage.
  • Aquaman LEGO minifig pushing a diorama pillar out of alignment
Just because you’re strong enough to punch out a pillar doesn’t mean you should!
  • LEGO minifig with goggles and spray on diorama facing a LEGO shark
Luckily one partygoer brought shark repellant!
  • Once a villain always a villain; this one thought knocking roof tiles onto bystanders below was a fun idea.

Luckily, Spurlock Collections Manager Christa Deacy-Quinn was able to touch up the paint and re-glue the model back to its original state. It’s now on display again and looking better than ever. Come by and check it out for yourself—but please leave your party hats at the door!

The only superhero in this saga was Christa, who painstakingly restored the theater to its former glory!
