The curator of our summer exhibit Fall to Pieces: Ingenious Mechanical Puzzles from Around the World Philip Nyman is hosting a puzzle party on July 21. Come check out the exhibit and join Phil for hands-on demonstrations of some of the puzzles in this summer’s special exhibit—and try a few yourself!

“I’ve been fascinated by puzzles of all kinds my entire life,” says Phil. “I’ve never thought of myself of a collector—I just enjoy them. Over the years, though, my ‘enjoyment’ has resulted in the accumulation of over 2,400 puzzles, games and puzzle books. I’ve even created original puzzles of my own design. I hope that everyone, at one time or another, has experienced the satisfaction of solving a beautifully crafted puzzle.”

About the exhibit:

Through the centuries, people have devised imaginative, even diabolical, puzzles to test our wits. Three-dimensional puzzles crafted of wood, metal, plastic, and other durable materials are designed to be taken apart, rearranged, or untangled. This exhibit is a selection of the world’s most famous mechanical puzzles that are artistic, creative, and challenging. Ingenious Mechanical Puzzles from Around the World is on display through July 21.
